General Rules
- The AMA Safety Code will be in effect at all
times.
- All AMPS members are Safety Officers and
have an obligation to ensure that all rules are
observed and enforced.
- All AMPS members are empowered to request
any unauthorized person to leave the property.
- All AMPS members must display a current AMPS
membership card while flying at the field. Club
membership card must be visibly displayed on the
member’s person.
- Use of alcoholic beverages and/or controlled
substances is ABSOLUTELY PROHIBITED on AMPS
property.
- Open flame cooking is only permitted in the
designated area.
- Due to safety and sanitary conditions, pets
are not permitted at the field.
- Members and their guests are responsible for
keeping the field free of trash. If you brought
it with you, you must take it home.
- Vehicular traffic is absolutely forbidden on
any portion of the runways.
- Playing of loud music is prohibited.
- Any rules, except for no-fly zone rules, can
be modified during special events, at the
discretion of the event coordinator and with the
Board of Directors approval.
Flying Privileges
- Only current AMPS members and their guests
may fly at the field.
- In order to fly as a guest the following
must be observed:
a. The guest must be sponsored by an active
AMPS member.
b. The sponsor must be present and is
responsible for the guest observing all AMPS and
AMA rules.
c. The guest must be an active AMA member.
d. The guest must place their AMA card on the
frequency board in place of a club frequency
pin.
e. Guest privileges are limited to a maximum of
three visits per year, after three visits the
guest must become an AMPS member.
f. Guests cannot change sponsors in order to
gain additional flight time.
Pit Rules
- Pits area - The area north and west of the
fence and extending to the flight line. The
flight line is an imaginary line 15 feet in
front of the pilot stations and extending
indefinitely in both directions, parallel to the
runway.
- Only pilots and their helpers are permitted
in the pits area.
- Children are not allowed in the pits area
unless they are AMPS Junior members and in no
case shall be under the age of six (6). Children
under the age of six (6) must always be
accompanied by an adult and maintained under
close supervision.
- A helper, work table or other airplane
restraint must be used for engine start up. To
start the aircraft the engine must face away
from the pits and never face a pilot standing in
a pilot station.
- Never leave an aircraft unattended with the
engine running.
- Taxiing of aircraft within the pits area is
prohibited. Aircraft must be held at all times
while moving to and from the runways. Radio
Control must not be used to move aircraft inside
the pits area.
- The main pavilion shall not be used as a pit
area and/or for engine starting or running.
- No prolonged engine running is permitted in
the pits area. Prolonged engine run-up is only
permitted on the far corner of the inactive
runway. The active runway is the runway being
used by fixed wing aircraft (airplanes). The
inactive runway is the runway being used by
helicopters.
- No smoking is permitted near gasoline
powered aircraft. The appropriate type of fire
extinguisher provided by the owner/pilot is
required to be immediately available for this
type of equipment.
Frequency Control
- All radios will be kept in the impound area
while not in use. The impound are is the shelves
below the frequency board on the main shelter
used to store the transmitter radios while not
in use.
- All radios will display the corresponding
frequency number except for radios transmitting
in the 2.4 Ghz frequency.
- In order to use a radio, the corresponding
frequency must not be in use by another pilot.
To claim the use of a frequency, the pilot must
place a club approved frequency pin on the
frequency board corresponding to the radio
frequency to be used. The frequency board is a
board with the AMA approved frequencies listed
and identifies the frequencies in use by the
pilot placing their pin on the frequency to be
used.
- Never remove another pilot’s frequency pin
from the board.
- Any person who causes an accident due to
improper use of frequency controls will be held
responsible for any financial loses.
Flight Operations
- No-Fly Zone – The area south of the flight
line on the east-west runway and east of the
north-south runway. This includes directly above
the pilot stations, over the pits area and over
the parking area. Also north of SW 168th Street,
2000 feet west of the north-south runway and
over the canal to the south east of the field.

- Flying in the no-fly zone is strictly
prohibited.
- The active runway shall be used only by
fixed wing aircraft.
- Helicopters and small airplanes flying in a
close to the pilot pattern (hovering / 3D) will
use the inactive runway.
- The use of two active runways is strictly
prohibited.
- The maximum number of concurrently flying
aircraft in the active runway is four (4).
- The maximum number of concurrently flying
aircraft in the inactive runway is two (2).
- All flying shall be conducted from the
designated pilot stations.
- Helicopter and small airplane pilots flying
circuits, hovering or doing 3D type maneuvers on
the inactive runway may stand on the runway so
as to fly as far away from and out in front of
the pit area as reasonable as possible.
- Flying over the active runway shall be
limited to take-off and landing. Flying over the
active runway is strictly prohibited.
- Pilots shall always announce their intention
to take-off, land, touch-n-go and other
emergencies in a loud and clear voice so as to
be heard over engine noise.
- Landing aircraft will always have the right
of way; “dead-stick” aircraft will have first
landing priority. Announce in a loud voice a
“dead-stick” situation as soon as possible to
allow other aircraft to move away from the
landing zone.
- Walking on the runway must be announced in a
clear and loud voice before stepping onto the
runway.
- A majority of active AMPS members present
who are flying airplanes shall decide on the
active runway for airplane operations.
- Flying shall be limited to 15 minutes per
flight.
- Flying over field workers is strictly
prohibited. All flying will stop when field
maintenance workers are present.
- Due to fire hazard conditions, turbine
powered aircraft is not allowed on the field.
Flight Instruction
- Flight instruction shall be provided to any
active member by a club designated flight
instructor. Any active AMPS member may provide
flight instruction to any other active AMPS
member provided that a club designated
instructor conducts the final solo flight test.
- A club designated flight instructor must
give the final approval for a student pilot to
become a solo pilot.
- All pre solo flight instruction shall be
done with the use of a trainer cord system.
- All student pilots receiving flight
instruction must submit a properly executed AMPS
Release of All Claims form prior to any flight
instruction.
