AMPS own member Rene Alvarez attended Top Gun for the 10th time. Rene showcased his latest creation, an F86G Thunderjet. It is finished in the 1954 Thunderbirds scheme which was the flight team's first jet.
The model is covered with Flite-Metal to simulate the aluminum skin (a process of cutting each panel, wet sanding with 600 then 1000 and then polishing for the highly polish metal finish). All the Bars and Stripes, USAF and United States of America, the Red, white and blue on the nose and the tail surfaces are all painted (PPG). The only transfers are the flags, thunderbird insignia on the side of the fuse and name of pilot. Powered by an RTI 2800 turbine, 29 lbs of thrust. Take off weight is 42 lbs. All JR digital high torque servos, BVM air valves for retracts, speed brakes, wheel brakes and sliding canopy. Light system for landing lights, position lights and beacons. It took nine months to complete the model.
