2006 Fly, Dine and Stargaze

An Event Overview

On March 11th, 2006 the AMPS held an event called the Fly, Dine and Stargaze. As the name implies, the idea was to fly a little, eat dinner and when the sun went down watch the moon and the stars. That is exactly what we did, several members brought their planes and helicopters and we flew for the better part of the afternoon. Among others, Nick Capone brought one of his war birds and flew it several times, dropping bombs and all. Sam Matos and Herminio Perez brought a contingent of electric planes to delight everyone present. Tim Khan did a fantastic demonstration of flight with his electric helicopter.

Around 5:30 PM we fired the cooking equipment and fed the masses with hamburgers, hot dogs and chicken. The food was excellent and everyone was satisfied.

To top it all, The Southern Cross Astronomical Society brought several telescopes to the field. We even watch the sun through a telescope equipped with very sophisticated filters. Looking at the moon through one of these telescopes was like being there. Several of the members present stayed 'till very late to watch the Orion Belt which was an awesome sight.
